FREYA
 |
Freya is a Los Angeles Native. Intrigued as a child by bellydancers seen in old James Bond movies, Freya revisited this beautiful dance form and has committed the past decade to learning, teaching and sharing her love for belly dance.
Over the past 2 years, Freya has focused on encouraging women to be communal with one another and has strived to create atmospheres where women can genuinely communicate with one another, dance freely and beautifully, and share information.
Freya's "Eclecticbelly" is her personal interpretation of belly dance influenced by home-spun American Cabaret, classic Egyptian, earthy Lebanese, and mystical North African Guedra. Not afraid to fuse a cued Tribal move with an Egyptian dance combination spliced from 50s movie footage, Freya is sure to keep the audience on their toes. And whether it's performing a Kabuki-styled Three Faces of the Moon, conjuring images of Egyptian goddesses as Troupe Bast, or playfully storytelling the Tale of the Mischievous Veil, creativity, passion and sensuality are the common ingredients of this flavorful style.
Savor a moment with Freya.

Awareness of the joy and power of music and movement began in her mother’s womb, immersed in the energy and rhythm of her native Havana, Cuba. The family moved to Los Angeles when she was 2, and in this diverse, international city, MAriaElena discovered Middle Eastern Dance at the delicate age of 16; it was her first teenage crush. ALLEN
|
Allen Stecker is a Southern California native, born and raised in San Diego. At the age of ten Allen's began playing tennis, which he played at a competition level through his college years. Sports involving eye-hand coordination came especially easy and contributed to his sense of rhythm and timing. During these same years Allen was involved in a form of roller skating known as Rexing, which is defined as, “organized or competitive roller skating to dance music with very intricate steps, turns, spins and leg-work all done in a backward direction”. Allen also judged the events, and skaters were judged on pattern, posture, timing to the music, and lastly level of difficulty.
In the mid-1990’s a company transfer placed Allen smack in the middle of San Francisco’s exploding dance scene and diverse club culture. It was here that he discovered his love of dance, saw “flagging” for the first time, and once again found himself naturally adept at this then unknown performance art of rhythmic light and self-expression.
The above experiences, combined with a technical teaching background, have enabled Allen to observe seemingly complex moves and transitions, break them down into single elements, and then teach them to others.
Allen's fun-loving spirit, combined with his gentle encouragements, enable students to feel comfortable and fully explore their self-expression in a safe space.

SAMANTHA
|
A
self-professed 'walking calamity', when Samantha Smith started college she took
a beginning ballet class to become more graceful. Although she enjoyed it, she
set dance aside and it was not until her animation degree was nearly complete
before she encountered bellydance. Inspired by her friend Safiya's cabaret style
dance as well as the work of Rachel Brice, she progressed from using videos at
home to studio practice in the cabaret style. As a life-long fan of Bollywood,
she was attracted to Heather Shoopman's Bellydance/Bollywood fusion workshop
and was hooked. After further instruction in tribal fusion, she joined Heather's
troupe at Bliss and has been dancing
with them ever since.
To Samantha, bellydance is a perfect extension of her
artistic temperament - a way to express her creativity physically, as well as a
natural extension of her love for music. She loves every style she has tried,
and will be teaching American Tribal Style basics to help others will find the fun and inspiration as she
has.
